Your Own Saffron
We have planted these bulbs in the best soil and given it long-term nutrition that will last until the bulbs need replanting in three to five years. Meanwhile, place the pot in the sunniest spot in your kitchen, ideally with 6-8 hours of direct light. Water deeply about once a week, draining the water - ideally collecting that liquid filled with beneficial organisms and organic material, for another plant that may also need the water. No need for fertilizer. Just your love and smiles. You can even sing to it!
When the blooms and leaves have returned their chi to the bulb from whence they emerged, you can bring the pot back to us for care. We will keep it safe until the end of the dormant period and let you know. The pot will be labeled so you know it is perfectly yours.
Saffron stigmas are where the favor and color are, and are edible. The rest of the plant is not for eating and may even be poisonous. Please be careful.
The favor and aroma develop as the stigmas air-dry in a warm dry place. The highest setting of your dehydrator is sufficient. Give them at least two weeks, when the stigma snaps, up to four weeks. After this, they can be stored in glass jar.
